I am the click.
Last Saturday was a learning experience. Eric and I spent all afternoon tracking drums on one song, only to learn that night that we did it all wrong. The next day, he sought after Paul’s wisdom on microphone placement and sound treating the room. We were getting tons of bleed from the hats in the snare mic, so it was quite nasty.
He got a nice X-Y overhead mic stand, a foam square to shield the snare mic from the hats, hung a U-haul quilt in the middle of the room, and put down a nice rectangular piece of shag carpet on the wood floors (which was leftover from a home project). Wednesday, I made another trip to see what we could make it sound like with his added knowledge and equipment. The first kick of the bass drum already sounded 10 times better. We worked hard — only taking a few breaks — and finished 3 songs by 5:30.
Needless to say, we had a much more productive day yesterday and I can’t wait for you to hear what we did. Eric is mixing/mastering the songs now and they should be done by this evening. I’ll be putting them up on my Virb when they’re ready.
He and another guitarist will be making rounds to local venues on Friday handing out demos so we can book some upcoming shows around town. I’m so pumped! Now if we could rope Bush in to play bass with us when he’s in town…
I’m so thankful for the grace of the Lord and I couldn’t have asked for a better week. His blessings are even more numerous than I can possibly see!

Bring it on, man. I’m ready to hear some of the stuff you guys recorded.
I don’t know if it’s heavy enough for you, Josh…
