The doors
Well, it’s really just one door that has seen many coats of paint recently. My lovely bride has been wanting to paint our front door for some time now. Here it is as of Labor Day:
While on vacation last weekend, she found a color that she fell in love with. She took a picture and moved on. She decided that we should tackle the new look on our day off after labor day. I agreed and looked forward to our time customizing our home together. This is the color she wanted:
We proceeded to take a trip to The Home Depot and spend about an hour picking out the new color. Of course, we wanted to match this color as best as possible and we did so. However, this is the color after 2 coats of tinted primer and a corner of the finish complete:
Yes, it really was that bright. Canary yellow bright. And thankfully it is no more. One more trip to The Home Depot and a high five to our first-name-basis friends in the paint department… I walked right up to the Behr reds and picked out Ruby Ring. An instant favorite.
What I did not mention at the beginning of this story is that since day one, my wonderful wife has wanted a red door on our white house. I also love the idea of a red door. Nice and rich. This idea for a “tuscan yellow/muted golden yellow” was merely 2 days old. So, we bought a quart of Ruby Red and a quart of Grey primer and plugged away. 2 primer coats and 3 finish coats later, here is our new Behr Ruby Red door (please pay no attention to our bare flower beds… fall planting is quickly approaching):
And that’s the big reveal. Our friends who have come over for a visit since Wednesday have all liked it very much. Us too. I love everything but the moth mark on the upper left hand side. I hate moths now.
That’s all I have. Just thought I’d share! Oh yeah, if you look close enough in the center pane of our dormer window you can see the reflection of our cellular eagles!

jamie and i love the red door!! (we like the yellow too.. but the red rocks)
Lyndsay and I love red doors on houses. We are going to replace our front door sometime soon and paint it red. They give a house very neat look.
I’m just glad you ditched the tweety bird yellow color.
The red door looks great – are you for hire?
Don’t bash the yellow door too much. Remember, someone else has one coming(maybe it just looks better in Georgia!
We love your door, and funny enough, we picked out the same exact color (independely of you). Actually, we first painted our black door “Accent Red” by Porter Paints – but in the sun it looked very bright orange. So after bringing home multiple samples, my neighbors and I all held up multiple paint chips and chose Behr’s Ruby Ring – for it’s total lack of orangeness, without becoming burgundy. I let my neighbors help decide because 1. They have a better eye for these things and 2. They have to look at the door way more than I do.
Your door looks great – I have read that a Red Door brings good luck.
